Self-Myofascial Release (SMR) is a stretching technique used to improve flexibility and function of tight muscles and to improve mobility of restricted joints by focusing on the body's neural and fascial systems. By applying gentle force to the adhesion or knot in the muscle, the collagenous fibers are manipulated from a bundled position into an alignment that is more parallel with the direction of the muscle and/or fascia.
You can perform self-myofascial release by using your own body weight on a foam roller to massage away restrictions to normal soft-tissue extensibility. Self-myofascial release should be done prior to, and after, your workout.
Benefits of Self-Myofascial Release:
• Correct muscle imbalances
• Improve joint range of motion
• Relieve muscle soreness
• Maximize recovery time
• Enhance extensibility of musculotendinous junction
• Increase neuromuscular efficiency
• Reduce injuries
• Maintain normal functional muscular length
• Relieve joint stress
• Improve overall performance
The class is on Sunday, June 10 2012 at 10:00am at Valley Village Park located at 5000 Westpark Drive, North Hollywood, CA 91601.
All you need to bring to class is a mat or towel, and a foam roller if you already have one. If you don't have a high-density foam roller, we will bring one to class for you that you can keep. There is a limited quantity available, so this option is only available while supplies last.
NOTE: More SMR clinics will be scheduled based upon demand.
